PDF Print E-mail

Previously, we have covered some really great photo editing and image manipulation apps for Windows 8 and Windows RT users, such as Fotor, and the Windows Store version of the popular Windows Phone 7 app Fotoroom, just to name a few. ALSee is another Modern UI photo editor that’s not too different from most other apps of its kind, but its touch-friendly, customizable interface and some really fascinating photo effects make it worth a shot. Details to follow after the jump!

ALSee sports an impressive UI, which fully compliments the Windows 8 Modern design philosophy. It allows you to edit images that are stored on your RT device or Windows 8 PC. And in addition, you can use its Take Photo option to capture the image using your computer’s camera as well.

The app offers a plethora of image editing options, letting you spruce up a photo by adding various effects and filters. You can also crop or rotate the image according to your preferences. The available editing tools can be selected either from the drop down menu at the top-left, or using slide gestures in the editing palette to the right, which reveals further options if you slide the finger horizontally or use the mouse scroll wheel for the purpose. The image adjustment options provided by ALSee include White Balance, Crop, Rotate, Adjust, Effect, Speech, Freehand, Sticker and Frames. All you have to do is simply select an available option and hit the Apply button to make the changes.

You can control various elements of a selected option. For instance, you can adjust brightness, contrast, and saturation of an image, as well as apply some pre-configured photo filters like soft light, sketch, film grain, black and white, sepia and so on.

You can even annotate the image by adding text or speech bubbles. This can also come in handy should you want to watermark an image file. The Free Hand tool demonstrated in the image below allows to draw on the image surface using the size-adjustable pencil tool.

You can even add virtual frames to your images from the several fancy-looking options available. Apart from adding frames, you can also paste a few amusing stickers on your images. You can use the Undo or Redo buttons on the app bar to revert any changes. The app bar also contains buttons to select image, take photo, revert to original and save. Speaking of save, the app lets you store the image in PNG, JPEG, TIFF, GIF and BMP formats.
