HTC DROID DNA Toolkit: Root, Install Drivers Flash Custom Recoveries Share
PDF Print E-mail

Earlier, we covered a guide on rooting the DROID DNA, and while it wasn’t the most complex root guide we have covered, manual root methods are never newbie friendly. So if you have been reluctant all this time – either out of fear of damaging your device or because you were waiting for a more convenient method – try recognized developer and XDA-Developers forum member hasoon2000’s HTC Droid DNA All-In-One Toolkit. The toolkit will help you easily root your device, install drivers for it on your PC, flash custom recoveries and kernels, install APKs, backup data and more. Note that it is meant for Windows only, and as specified by the developer, will not be getting Mac or Linux variants.

Please note that Verizon has locked down the bootloader since the device hit the retail shelves. The toolkit will not unlock the bootloader unless you apply the soft mod by Justin Case, which makes the phone appear unbranded to the HTC Dev website. The link to the method is provided in the requirements section below.

The toolkit comes packed with ClockworkMod Recovery and TWRP 2.3.2, and will let you flash other recoveries as well. If you’re wondering why you should root and what a custom recovery is, read our top 10 reasons to root an Android device and our detailed guide on ClockworkMod recovery.

Disclaimer: Please follow this guide at your own risk. AddictiveTips will not be liable if your device gets damaged or bricked during the process.

  1. To begin, download the toolkit from the link above and extract the contents of the archive. Make sure that the directories in the path (no matter what the number of directories) have names with no spaces. For example, ‘C:/Zayed_Rehman/Droid_DNA_All-In-One_Kit_v1.0’, NOT ‘C:/Zayed Rehman/Droid_DNA_All-In-One_Kit_v1.0’.
  2. Connect the DNA to the PC with USB Debugging enabled.
  3. Run the toolkit and make sure you install the drivers first. Select the ‘Install HTC Drivers’ option and hit ‘Go’ to do so.

The rest doesn’t need much elaboration if you know what you’re trying to achieve. For updates on this toolkit and further queries, head over to the forum thread at XDA-Developers linked below.
