HTC’s DROID DNA is the most technically stunning phone I’ve seen this year. Besides a top-of-the-line quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chip clocked at 1.5GHz, it comes with 2GB of RAM, an 8MP/2.1MP camera combo, 4G LTE and a truly awesome 5” Full HD 1080p Super LCD3 display unheard of on smartphones! Those of you interested in buying the smartphone will be glad to know that it has already been rooted, and ClockworkMod Recovery / TWRP recovery have been released for it. Follow our step-by-step guide after the jump for rooting and installing a custom recovery on your DROID DNA!

Disclaimer: Follow this guide at your own risk. AddictiveTips will not be held responsible in case your device gets bricked or damaged in any other way as a result of following this method.

  1. Boot your DROID DNA into fastboot mode. Connect it to your PC via USB cable.
  2. Launch Command Prompt / Terminal on your computer and enter the following command folder where you downloaded the recovery image file:
    fastboot flash recovery DNA.CWR.6.Large.Font.img
  3. Reboot your phone by entering the following in the terminal:
    fastboot reboot-bootloader
  4. Now we can actually move on to rooting your phone! Transfer the SU and Busybox Installer ZIP file to the SD card of your DROID DNA.
  5. Boot into ClockworkMod Recovery.
  6. Navigate to “install zip from sdcard” > “choose zip from sdcard” and select the file.
  7. Once the file has been flashed, choose “reboot system now” from the main menu.

If you followed the steps correctly, your HTC Droid DNA will now be rooted on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. To confirm this, look for an app called “SuperSU” in the apps drawer.

Now that you have rooted your DROID DNA, you should check out our list of 15 must-have root-enabled apps.

For queries, please visit the official thread on XDA Developers from the link below. Please note that for DROID DNA units that come with S-ON, you won’t be able to write to the system partition, which means some of your favorite root-only apps and hacks may not work as expected.
