Streamweaver For iPhone: Team Up With Friends To Record Events From Every Angle Share

A video is supposed to capture the environment of any place more thoroughly than a photo ever can, but thanks to the panorama photography in iOS 6, still images are coming pretty close to videos in terms of covering maximum area in one shot. It is possible to shoot more detailed videos simply by changing your position and point-of-view while shooting, but you can’t be everywhere all at once. Or can you? With the new Streamweaver app, you can shoot a single scene from four different perspectives (with a little help from your iDevice-owning friends). Streamweaver adds a touch of social networking to the process of shooting videos from your iPhone. The app lets you invite up to 4 other Streamweaver users to join you in a shooting session, and when all of you have captured the same scene from different angles, the results will be merged automatically and presented to you as a single, split-screen video.

Streamweaver comes up with a graphical tutorial to help you get started, and once you have gone through it once, you will have to sign up for a new account. It is possible to use your Facebook account to login to Streamweaver, but if you don’t want that, simply sign up using your email ID. Once you have configured your Streamweaver profile, the app takes you to its Featured page. This area of the app gives you an idea of the kind of things Streamweaver can be used for. You can view any of the public videos, and it is also possible to leave your comments and likes on them.

To get the most out of Streamweaver, it is essential that a few of your friends are also iPhone users, and have downloaded the app. If that is the case, you can invite them to connect with you, and have some fun when you are all hanging out together. To start a shooting session, hit the rainbow button at the bottom of the screen (make sure that the rotation lock of your device isn’t enabled). You can shoot videos without collaboration, but that kills the whole purpose of the app. When multiple people have joined a session, Streamweaver will indicate their presence at the top of the screen, but other than that, it lets you shoot in peace. When you are done capturing the video, just provide a caption for your part of the video, and if you want, the app also provides the option of adding your current location to the vid. The end result put forth by Streamweaver is a split-screen video that combines all the videos in a session. The video generated by the app can be shared over Facebook, or you can save it to your device’s camera roll.

Although Streamweaver might appear to be nothing more than a novelty app at first glance, it certainly has potential to come in handy in a lot of situations. The app is optimized for iPhone and iPod touch, and is available as a free download.
