Corona 5.0.1 Untether: Get Untethered Jailbreak On iOS 5.0.1 [Cydia Tweak] Share
PDF Print E-mail

Untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 has just been released and is available for download. As you’d already know, @pod2g, the hacker who discovered the untethered exploit for iOS 5.0.1, handed over his findings to both the Chronic Dev Team and iPhone Dev Team for packaging and final release. iPhone Dev Team just released updated version of their redsn0w tool, making it redns0w 0.9.10b1 for performing untethered jailbreak on all supported A4 (and lower) iOS devices (our full guide is linked above). Chronic Dev Team took things one step further, and released a Cydia package by the name of Corona 5.0.1, that can perform the same untether on any jailbroken iPhone 4, iPhone 4 CDMA, iPhone 3GS, iPad 1, iPod Touch 4G and iPod Touch 3G, running iOS 5.0.1. Details and instructions after the break.

Chronic Dev Team’s Corona 5.0.1 package uses the same exploit as found in redsn0w and updated Pwnage tool, originally discovered by @pod2g. The Cydia package makes the untether even easier, as you don’t need to perform any complicated operations or need a computer at all. Simply install the package, reboot the device and you’ve got your untethered jailbreak on iOS 5.0.1.

Requisite: Please remember that if you’re running a supported device, your iOS version must be 5.0.1. This is because the exploit does not support iOS 5.0.

Follow the steps below to install Corona 5.0.1 jailbreak package on your supported iDevice running iOS 5.0.1.

  • Launch Cydia on your tethered jailbroken iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad (A4 version)
  • Go to the Search tab and look up “Corona 5.0.1 Untether”
  • Install the package, and let the process complete

Corona 5.0.1 Untether

Once the package is installed, your device will require a reboot, for which you’ll need to perform a tethered one using redsn0w or iBooty (depending on how you jailbroke in the first place). After that, your device’s shackles are broken, and you get untethered jailbreak on iOS 5.0.1!

The biggest advantage of using Cornoa 5.0.1 Untether package is that you don’t need to perform a restore on your device. Hence, you get to keep all your apps, data, settings etc. In case you have a device running iOS 5.0.1 but are not jailbroken (or Cydia is broken, for some reason), you can use Dev Team’s redsn0w to achieve the jailbreak. See our detailed guide on using redsn0w 0.9.10b1 here.

If you are still running iOS 5.0, we advise you to upgrade as soon as possible while the SHSH signing window for iOS 5.0.1 remains open. Chronic Dev Team advises jailbreakers to stay away from iOS 5.0.2 (whenever released) however, as this may break your chances for an untether again.
