Benchmark Application Start Up Times With AppTimer Share
PDF Print E-mail

AppTimer is an application start up time benchmarking tool that lets you run an executable file a pre-specified number of times, and check how long it takes for the application to be ready for use after execution. The application logs the start up times to a log file after each execution of the application. It comes in handy if you are trying to compare the performance of one software on different hardware, or multiple software on a single hardware.

To start, enter the path of the application that you want to test in Application, any command line arguments that you want to pass to the executable file in Cmd Line, path of the log file that will be created during the testing process in Log File, and name of the main window of the application being run in Window Name. Since AppTimer attempts a sub-string match, the Window Name doesn’t need to be exactly same as actual window title. Specify the number of executions and delay between executions in Executions and Delay respectively.

The Window Detection Method has Input Idle (Window is detected after it start to accept user input), Window Name (uses Window Name entered in the field above), Exact Match (matches exact window name; it can only be used with Window Name option) and Visible (window is queried about a visible status; it also requires Window Name).

Choose WM_Close, WM_SYSCOMMAND or Alt+F4 method for closing the window under Window Close Method. Click Run App after all configurations are done.
