Whether you’re a video game pundit, an avid console or PC gamer, or just someone who likes to keep an eye on the industry, you would surely be aware of GameTrailers. Known as GT for short, it’s one of the largest online gaming news, reviews and previews websites around, with focus on providing free access to the latest video game trailers. After over a year since it was first released on iOS, the official GameTrailers mobile app has finally made its way to Android.

GameTrailers gave an early look at the Android app almost seven months ago when the folks at GT released a few screenshots. Essentially, both the Android App and iOS apps have the same feature set, which includes sections for latest game videos, featured videos as well as original GT shows. GameTrailers is known for their original programming with top video game auteurs, designers, journalists and experts; for instance, the opinionated videos and interviews with Michael Pachter and the Bonus Round show hosted by Geoff Keighley. The Android app is designed to give you access to all that content from the comfort of your smartphone or tablet.

Speaking of its UI, the GameTrailers app is an absolute breeze to navigate. A simple left and right swipe on the main screen lets you navigate between Featured, Latest, Reviews and Shows sections.

In the Reviews section, you can filter videos by time (newest first), alphabetical order or GT score, and according to gaming platforms. Videos can also be shared on the fly thanks to the app’s deep social media integration as well as Android’s native in-app sharing menu.

The only real shortcoming I found with the app is that all videos are streamed in low quality. The playback screen too doesn’t carry many options, not even volume control, let alone changing the quality of the video stream. You can, however, toggle closed captions in videos that support them.

It’s a fair app, but there’s still quite a lot of room for improvement. The first thing that I’d like to see added in a future update is the ability to switch video quality between SD or HD on the fly.
