data storage space of a hard drive into separate areas for easy management is generally referred to as ‘disk partitioning’. Partitions are usually created on storage drives when installing an operating system on it for the first time, but sometimes a user may come across the need to perform further partitioning of a drive. Macrorit Disk Partition Expert 2013 is a Windows application that aims to make this process painless and hassle free. Sporting a variety of features, it can let you extend a volume to further partitions without any data loss. In addition, it provides you options to perform surface test, defragment, delete, hide, format and wipe drives, change drive letters, and more.

Although the internet is loaded with many fantastic disk partitioning tools, what makes this app great are its features like fast data moving algorithm (up to 300% faster than competition, as the developers claim), flexible process control (which allows you to cancel any operation anytime), Power-off data protection, zero disk fragmentation during resizing and moving etc. Additional features include support for 2TB hard drives and beyond, 1024 bytes sector size, and MBR/GPT partitions.

The interface of Macrorit displays the list of current disk volumes on your computer, as well as the size and format of each drive. To the left, you will find panes for Operations and Pending Operations.

To perform any action on to the required disk, right-click the item and make your selection from the context menu options, almost all of which are pretty self-explanatory. As stated earlier, you can resize, move, copy or delete volumes, perform disk defragmentation, change disk labels and drive letters, and run other common tasks related to disk volumes.

Context Menu

The Surface Test is specifically handy to check for disk errors. This feature analyzes the whole drive in order to scan for any corrupt sectors, and notifies you at the end of the test. Green represents sectors without any fault, while red denotes some issue. You are also allowed to stop the analysis anytime you want.

Error Check

Moving to the partitioning process, it’s fairly simple and easy. To create a new volume out of an existing partition’s free space, select ‘Resize Move Volume’ from the aforementioned context menu. Next, specify the amount of disk space you want to allocate to the partition. The application displays the maximum size of the drive, and all you have to do is enter your desired size in the ‘Volume Size’ field, followed by clicking OK.

Partition Settings

The next thing you need to do is click ‘Commit’ on the toolbar to begin the resizing process, which may take several minutes to complete depending on the volume size. It should be mentioned here that Macronit doesn’t cause any data loss when creating disk partitions this way.

Current Process

Macrorit currently offers several editions of the app, including a fully functional free Home edition for personal and non-profit use without any feature limitations whatsoever. It works on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8.
